Date Pie Recipe

Date Pie with Flaky Pastry, Dates, Milk, Almonds, Egg and Ground Cinnamon.

INGREDIENTS

4 oz (100g) Flaky Pastry
4 oz Dates
1/2 pint (300ml) Milk
1 oz (25g) Sweet Almonds
1 Egg
Good Pinch of Salt
Good Pinch of Ground Cinnamon

METHOD

Blanch the almonds and cut them into strips. Stone the dates (if necessary). Put the dates in a saucepan with the milk and cook gently until they are quite soft. Rub through a coarse sieve (or blend). Then mix in the salt, cinnamon, almonds, and the beaten egg.

Line a pie dish with flaky pastry. Put in the date mixture and bake for half an hour in a hot oven (230C, 450F, Mark 8). Serve hot or cold.
