Kentish Oast Cakes Recipe
Kentish Oast Cakes Recipe with Flour, Sugar, Baking Powder, Lard, Currants & Lemon Juice.
INGREDIENTS
1 lb (450g) Plain Flour
1/2 teaspoon Salt
1/2 teacupful Sugar
1 teaspoonful Baking Powder
4 oz (100g) Lard
7 oz (200g) Currants
1 teaspoonful Lemon Juice
METHOD
Sift the dry ingredients into a basin, then rub in the Lard. Stir in the Currants and mix into a light dough with water mixed with Lemon Juice. Roll litle pieces if dough out lightly and fry them until golden in a little hot oil. Serve hot for tea.
